Have You Ever Considered EDDM or Direct Mail to Market Your Event or Business?

Have You Ever Considered EDDM or Direct Mail to Market Your Event or Business?

Like most things, you should always have multiple ways you market your product or service.  One profitable way is EDDM or Direct mail, what is the difference you ask?  Which one will work for you?

Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) is a bulk mailing option offered by the Post Office as a less expensive way to saturate a given geographic area with direct mail.  For these types of saturation mailings, the Post Office delivers your promotion to every door in selected Carrier Routes without the need for a name, address or demographic.

It is a great way for any business to saturate everybody in a neighborhood one wants to target.  For example, a local business such as a grocery store, a real estate agent, or restaurant can saturate 100% of their trade area at a relatively low cost.  They wouldn’t need to purchase a mailing list which in the long run will save a substantial amount of money.  You can also mail oversize pieces and have the Post Office deliver them at a low price.

Like every other marketing campaign a company does, always do your research and make sure that the neighborhood chosen would be beneficial to the promotion one does.  For example if you were a landscaping company, you wouldn’t want to target an area of townhouses or apartments as chances are they wouldn’t need that type of service.

Keep in mind if you need something delivered quickly EDDM is not the best option for you. Average delivery times fall between 7-10 days from the time it is delivered to the post office.  So give yourself plenty of time to market yourself and you will do so in a more affordable way.

Now if you want to target census demographics like age range, or household income to potential customers, then EDDM may not be the best way for you. In that case, we would recommend purchasing a direct mailing list as a better solution for your needs.   You can choose exactly who it is you want to know about what it is you are marketing.

Direct mail, it encompasses a wide variety of marketing materials, including brochures, catalogs, postcards, newsletters, and sales letters. Think about the mail you get in your own mailboxes, all major corporations know that direct-mail advertising is one of the most effective and profitable ways to reach out to both new and old clients alike.  Direct mail lets you communicate promptly to your target audience. You have control over who receives your message, when it’s delivered, what’s in the envelope and how many people you reach.

So to summarize, direct mail targets people specifically chosen to suit your product. EDDM targets customers based on USPS postal carrier routes. “Every Door,” or every mailbox, in the postal routes you select will be mailed to at a more economical postage rate than a traditional mailing.

Only you know which is the better solution for you, but keep in mind whichever you choose, we can assist you all the way through.
